For Windows PC users who have always longed for a compact/small remote control for Windows Media Center, there is some good news. With a simple tweak you can pair up the Zune remote with a PC running the Windows 7 operating system. This lets you enjoy multimedia content from the confines of your cozy bed/couch zipping through images, music, videos or movies. You just have to change the IR ID on the registry of your Media Center IR receiver.
By default, Windows is tuned in to channel 1 and the Zune remote is channel 1. You can set this value to 8 but this will make your MCE remote non-compatible. So you have to set the value to 0, which allows Windows to listen to all IR IDs.
Go to Start->Run and type-in “regdit” which opens the Registry Editor window. Then look out for the following entry:
ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservicesHidIrRemotes745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da
Click on it to find REG_DWORD named CodeSetNum0; change the value to 0. After this reboot your PC, and thereafter you can use your Zune remote the with Windows Media Center multimedia program.
