How about some Nintendo DS gaming with the visual input for your eyes about 20 times the size of the original Nintendo DS screen. That’s right this is a mega mod and has been named aptly as ‘Jumbotron DS’. A guy over at home.comcast.net has been working on a project that was initially complete but now has some more fine tuning added to it. Jumbotron DS is an average Nintendo DS hooked onto to 2 Tablet PC screens; FPGA (Field-programmable gate array) has been used for some translation magic. Pen input from the tablets is sent back to the DS using and screenshot of games can also be transferred to a PC using a serial port. Videos after the jump.
The mod has been fine tuned by adding an IDC40 connector (in the GBA slot) and audio & power was brought out of the connector to get rid of the wire mess. A USB module (Cypress EZ-USB FX2LP) has been clamped on for video recording, the firmware had to bee re-written as default firmware is way too slow to transfer video at a good bit-rate.
The project cost has been estimated at around 580 $, ya that’s lot of money, but still worth giving a shot. For more details on the project make complete with pictorial illustrations jump over to the project site by clicking here.
